What Is The Diet For Diabetic Nephropathy

What Is The Diet For Diabetic Nephropathy? In Diabetic Nephropathy, diet plays an important role in managing the diseases. An ideal diet plan not only can maintain good nutritional status, but also can slow the disease progression and reduce the incidence of complication.

Do Eat a Healthful Diet

Keeping your blood sugar level, as close as possible to normal, is the best way to prevent diabetic neuropathy. Do this with a diet plan for diabetes control: Limit sugar and fat, have more frequent and smaller meals, count your carbohydrates, and eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Carbohydrates

Compared to fats and protein, carbohydrates have the greatest impact on blood sugar . Except for dietary fiber, which is not digestible, carbohydrates are eventually broken down by the body into glucose. Carbohydrate types are either complex or simple.

Salt

The daily salt intake should be reduced to less than 5gm, the foods high in sodium like processed meat and canned foods, pickle, pappad, commercial salad dressing. Dried fruits, nuts, baking powder, soda, baked products like biscuit, cake, pastries, chocolates, butter, cornflakes, packet noodles etc. should be avoided.

Protein

Utilize low protein food in your diet according to the allowances given and as advised by your dietician. In times of serious renal failure, water intake should be limited.

Potassium

To reduce the potassium content adopt leaching process that boil vegetables with excess amount of water and drain off excess water, followed by seasoning of foods. For severe potassium restriction, avoid fruit juices, coconut water, excessive amount of tea, coffee, jam, jellies, chocolates, soups, dry fruits, ragi, green leafy vegetables etc.

Don’t Skip Meals

Normally, if your sugar gets too low (hypoglycemia), you’ll have symptoms, like sweating and shakiness. If you have diabetic neuropathy, you may not get these warning signs, because the neuropathy can affect the nerves that control digestion. The best way to prevent hypoglycemia is to snack frequently and not skipmeals. Also, check your blood sugar more often. If you are having trouble with low blood sugar, get help from your health care team.

Don’t Eat Refined Grains

Refined grains are in “white” products, like white rice, white bread, and white pasta. Refining whole grains removes their outer shell and, along with it, important B vitamins and fiber, essentials for your diet. Refined grains make it harder for you to regulate your blood sugar, which is bad for diabetic neuropathy. Try to replace refined grains with whole grains, including brown rice and whole wheat breads and pasta.

Keeping a Good Balance

Meat, dairy, poultry, fish and healthy.fats along with carbohydrates, green leafy vegetables and fruits should all be included in the diabetic diet.
