Why Oranges Are Not Good For Uremia Patients

Orange is well knowns for its high concentration of vitamins. And It is delicious and juicy. Can uremia patients consume orange? It depends on patient’s potassium levels.

Orange is rich in potassium. If potassium in the blood is high, the heart beat will slow down, which can lead to accident of heart beat, or shock, threatening the life of patients. The glomerular filtration rate and the function of renal tubules of uremia patients decreases which leads to the discharge ability of potassium decreases. That′s why uremia patients can not have oranges.

If your potassium is high, you are not suggested to consume orange for its high potassium. Besides, other fruits, such as Mango, banana, avocado, cantaloupe, grapefruit, guava, kiwi, melon, papaya, are not good choices.

As foods are the major resource for potassium for the body, the foods with low potassium will be suggested for people with advanced Kidney Disease.

Not every patient with Kidney Disease should avoid orange. If your potassium level stays in the normal range, moderate intake is okay. You are suggested to visit your doctor regularly. He or she can help monitor your potassium levels and determine the available fruits and vegetables for your own conditions.
